About Samuel Smith Brewery
The Old Brewery at Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, England was founded in 1758 and is Yorkshire’s oldest brewery. Samuel Smith is one of the few remaining independent exporting breweries in England, and further is the last to utilize the classic Yorkshire Square system of fermentation solely in stone Yorkshire squares.
Heritage is serious business at The Old Brewery. The rich Samuel Smith strain of yeast dates from the early 1900s. Hops are hand-weighed by the master hop blender, and the brewing water is drawn from the original well, sunk more 250 years ago. To this day, you can see the breweries magnificent Shire horses drawing drays around Tadcaster five days a week, to deliver beer in barrels made by the brewery’s cooper.
Samuel Smith beers and ciders are vegan products, registered with The Vegan Society, as seen here; the product list is here.
Beers from Samuel Smith’s Old Brewery have delighted consumers and inspired other brewers for over 250 years. Samuel Smith was the first brewery Merchant du Vin imported beer from.
